at this time we want to design a wedding invitation card. here the final design let’s just say it’s a Romeo and Juliet weeding card 🙂 we chose classic as the theme with brown as the primary color this is the front side of the card.
the right side is the cover and the left is back cover. You can change the photo in the left side with a poetry, ornaments, or anything you like. while in the back side, which is the content, are the detailed information about the wedding. don’t forget to put the wedding time and place let’s start open the photoshop I use CS 3 version, but you can use any version, since they have similiarity in user interface. first, we create a new file. And I choose A4 paper size. Off course you can choose another paper size that suits you. which is in International Paper drop down menu. for best result for printing, you must pick more than 300 pixels/inch resolution. and CMYK color mode is suit for printing. Our wedding card design is in landscape format. We have to change its layout to landscape. Choose Image menu ->Rotate Canvas ->90 CW or CCW Show Rulers on our canvas by choosing View menu ->Rulers Then change rulers unit to percents by right click on the rulers. We have to devide the canvas into two. In order to fold the card when its printed. To devide it, we drag a line from the left ruler. Make sure that Move Tools is choosen. Drag the line and put into the 50% of the ruler . This line won’t show up when we print the card. There will be two designs. The cover and the content. And each design consists of left and right sides. Both design will be saved on a photoshop file. So it can be easy to edit and print. We must create two groups. And each groups consists of two designs, left and right. If you can’t find the Layers window, you can show it in Window menu ->Layers From Layer window, click a look alike folder icon at the botttom of Layer window. Then it will create a Group 1. In Group 1, we will design cover and back cover. So let’s change Group 1 name to Cover. Create another group. Change its name to Content. Mean time, hide Content group by clicking an eye icon. Because we will design the cover first. Choose Cover group. We can pick any background that suitable with our theme. My theme design is classic, so I must choose background that suits. Open that background in Photoshop, and then drag it to our canvas. Adjust its size by dragging the background corner. Next we add some text. Click Type Tool, and click the canvas. Then start typing. Change its font to suit the theme from Character window. Don’t forget to adjust the color. Add ornaments to make it more awesome. Add ornament just by dragging to canvas. If you want to add just some parts of the ornament, then you must create selection before dragging in. Use selection tools that fits the ornament, than drag it to canvas. Adjust its size and position. We can add text on the ornament if we want to. Adding more ornament with the same technique. If needed, we can add more line to know the center of the cover. So, all objects can be arranged in center position. Drag the left ruler with Move Tool, and put it in 75%, which is the center position on cover side. With the help of this line, we will be able to know that the objects are not in center position. Move the objects centered. Next, we design the back cover, by adding a photo in a frame. Notice that, all objects that we added in the Layer window are in Cover Group. But when we start to design the content, all the objects must in the Content Group. Click the arrow at the Cover Group to hide its contents. Then click the Cover Group eye icon to hide all design. Click the Content Group eye icon to start to show it. We use the same technique like we designed the cover. First, we add a background. Next, we add some texts. We also add lines to know the center position. Drag the ruler with Move Tool, and put it in 25% position. We can add horizontal line if we need to. Just by dragging the top ruler with Move Tool. Next, add some ornaments. In the end, each group will create each JPG files. But have one Photoshop file. There will be two JPGs, a cover and a content.
