Hope is the most basic social contract. The promise it offers feels greater and tastes richer than any joy that can be cheaply found anywhere in the world It can also
play a deadly trick on your mind. Before every election most Zimbabweans hope
for the best: that finally we are going to get rid of mediocre leadership and then maybe our Parliament will be able to debate on what is right or what’s the
best way to to solve this or to solve a problem rather than argue like is there
a problem anyway. There is so much of that finally jobs can be created. People won’t be hungry anymore. Healthcare improves. Education for everybody. Roads improve. Corruption gets clamped down on. But then this optimistic feeling always gets crushed by the lack of faith in our voting system. and that maybe these people we are voting in are just a new bunch of thieves. Our lack of faith in the voting system is such that right up to the minute the polls close we know what the result is. So, let me take this chance to say congratulations Mr President.
